The Bishop’s Stortford High School allocates 9 places to pupils with a proven aptitude in music (year 7 admission number is 180). This will be determined on the basis of an aptitude test.
Students sit a Musical Aptitude Test comprising 60 multiple choice questions and will be tested on: Pitch, Rhythm, Melody and Texture.Applicants will listen to the questions on a CD, the running time of which is approximately 35 minutes. Whilst no previous musical experience is required in order to take the test, it is expected that applicants wishing to apply under criterion 5 have an interest in music, and are expected to participate fully in the musical life of the school should they gain a place.
The Bishop’s Stortford High School, The Hertfordshire & Essex High School and The Leventhorpe School arrange Musical Aptitude Tests in common and students will sit one test only which will be arranged at one of the three schools, irrespective of the school(s) to which you are applying.
